Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Mall

Located at the centre of the uber trendy Bukit Bintang district, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is a sprawling 1.37 million square feet complex comprised of three major components – a retail mall, an office block and two residential towers. Occupying prime real estate along Jalan Bukit Bintang, the mall was opened in 2007 and is noteworthy as the city centre’s trendiest and most popular shopping development.

The main entryway of the mall plays host to the Pavilion Crystal Fountain; a new national landmark, this fountain is the Tallest Liuli Crystal Fountain in Malaysia. Just like the Trevi Fountain in Rome, visitors can toss coins into the fountain to make a wish – the coins are collected and donated to charity later.

The mall’s Centre Court – also known as Bintang Circle – is used as a promotional space for thematic events and the bank of elevators is located beside the atrium. Pavilion’s known for its all-encompassing Christmas decorations – from huge pine trees, giant sleighs, life-like Santa’s workshops, giant baubles and oodles of gifts piled high – that adorn Bintang Circle (as well as the area surrounding the Liuli Crystal Fountain), come December. Encircling the Centre Court are popular coffee chains – Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Dome CafĂ©, which are great places to grab a cup of java before you begin your exploration of Pavilion.

The seven-storey retail mall consists of six shopping precincts as well as a row of street-front boutiques. Popular no matter the day of the week or time of day, Pavilion boasts over 450 stores, including the four-storey Burberry and Esprit. A large number of haute fashion marques such as Juicy Couture, Gucci, MaxMara, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Versace, Prada and more call Pavilion home.

These high-end stores can be found in the Couture Pavilion sector of the mall and a majority of them occupy double-storey street front lots. Meanwhile, the interior of the mall houses a wide range of small-time international boutique fashion stores.

Opposite the main concourse is the Pavilion’s main anchor tenant, the three-storey Parkson Grand – a Singaporean departmental store. Other big chain department store ventures include Tangs, Mercato Supermarket and Harvey Norman.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

Part of the renowned Lake Gardens, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is reputedly one of the largest in the world. This sprawling 20-hectare park comprises a few separate parks - Brahminy Land, Hornbill Park, Flamingo Pond and the World of Parrots exhibit - as well as a free-flight walk-in aviary - which houses over 3000 birds. Storks and flamingo frolic in the water, finches and thrushes chirp among the trees and owls roost in barns; the tiled walkways are the perfect way to enjoy the sight of these beautiful birds and you can even take photographs of yourself with the eagles and macaws and even feed some of the pelicans.

Batu Caves

One of Kuala Lumpur's most frequented tourist attractions; Batu Caves is a limestone hill comprising three main caves and a few smaller ones. Featuring idols and statues erected inside the main cave and around it, this temple has limestone formation said to be around 400 million years old. Considered an important religious landmark by Hindus, the most popular cavern in Batu Caves, Cathedral Cave, houses several Hindu shrines beneath its 100-metre arched ceiling. Visitors can scale 272 steps to access the caves; during Thaipusam thousands of Hindu devotees come to this site to perform religious rites.

Chinatown

The colourful Chinatown is a well-known bargain hunter's paradise that seemingly never sleeps. Deeply immersed in Oriental culture, heritage and history, Chinatown is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia, and holds its own against its more glamorous neighbours, KLCC & Bukit Bintang. Representing Malaysia's multihued multicultural background perfectly, you can find all sorts of stuff, from Chinese herbs to imitation goods in this area. At night, its main vein - Petaling street - is transformed into a lively and vibrant night market filled with hundreds of stalls offering all kinds of goods at dirt-cheap prices as haggling is the way of life here.

Menara KL Tower

Along with the Petronas Twin Towers, Menara Kuala Lumpur is easily Malaysia’s most recognizable and popular landmark. Constructed in 1994, the tower stands at 421 metres and effortlessly trumps the Petronas Twin Towers with the highest and most spectacular view of the city. This gleaming tower’s spindle-like apex is visible from almost anywhere in Kuala Lumpur.

Menara KL’s viewing deck is, at 276 metres, at least 100 metres higher than the Petronas Twin Towers’ Skybridge; the view is marvellous during the day and even better at night when you can see the entire sparkling city centre.

KLCC - PETRONAS Twin Towers

There are few exciting place to visit throughout Malaysia. First of all, it is Petronas Twin Towers.

It is one of the tallest buildings in the world, the 88-story PETRONAS Twin Towers are now celebrated as the world's tallest twin structures. Inspired by Islamic architecture, this gleaming mega-structure - standing 452 metres tall - retained its claim to fame until 2004 when Taipei's 101 was built measuring 508 metres - and with 101 floors.

Declared the tallest buildings in the world when they were completed in 1998 - surpassing the 442-metre-tall Willis Tower in Chicago, U.S.A - these twin wonders, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, contain a complex of office building, conference halls, a sprawling 50-acre park and an upmarket shopping complex. Designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates, the building primarily house the corporate headquarters of the PETRONAS Company and are joined at the 41st and 42nd floors (175 metres above street level) by a 58-metre long double-decker Sky Bridge.
